1967 Firebird "400"Below you will find pictures on one of my most recent accomplishments. My 1967 Firebird restoration!
Upon arriving in Canada in 1976, I became addicted to the Coke-bottle styling of the 1967/68 Firebird and Camaro. Due to the Canadian winters and salted roads in Ontario, most of these cars didn't last more than ten or so years. It became a goal of mine to one day venture down to a southern U.S. state to buy, and if necessary, restore one of these cars. As life (and work, etc.) rambled on I realized this was going to be a more long term goal. Along came the internet, and after searcing for a while, I came across (on E-Bay) a 1967 Firebird (#949 built) that looked to be in very good condition.
I purchased the car on-line in October 2001 and within 48 hours had the car back in Canada (with some border/duty difficulties due to 9/11 having JUST happened). You can imagine with a 35 year old car, that there would probably be some problems (not to mention the fact that there was no motor in the car). As I began to assess/review the car I realized there was more work to it than I had initially anticipated. Instead of being a car that needed some body work and an engine, it became a total frame off restoration. The car has since been completely stripped down, the frame removed (by myself), and was then sent out to an incredible shop (an artist) for the bodywork to be completed (inside, outside and upside down).
I then began to reassemble the car and currently have it in running condition in the garage with a new exhaust system (it was very loud before!). My dream of restoring the Firebird was finished in 2004 and it is on the road! I am totally enjoying it although have little time to actually take it for a ride. Stop on by and have a look if you're in the area. It was quite a learning experience and I look forward to doing it again one day.
